MARKETING MATTERS
If you’ve been following our suggested activities over the last two months, you will now have a scheduled marketing plan, complete with a new marketing activity for the April – June quarter that you’ve never tried before.
There’s the possibility that you’ve already scheduled the marketing of financial year calendars into your plan. However if you haven’t, it will be easy as I’ll outline what’s required here.
With your marketing plan in front of you, mark the period from 1 May to 31 August, as you’ll be promoting financial year calendars during this time. Then, visit the self-promotional tools section on the IBS website (www.ibscards.com.au/selfpromotools.html) and download the calendar letter, poster, telemarketing script and flyer.
I’d suggest starting with the poster, as it’s simple to print a few copies and put them in your storefront windows or walls. This small act may be enough to trigger interest from walk-in customers or prompt phone calls from customers passing by.
Then, look through your database of previous customers and compile a list of those that you think might be specifically interested in financial year calendars. Of course, you can remind everyone that calendars are available to order, however it’s best to concentrate your efforts on those in the financial industry or retail sector, as this time of year is traditionally of great interest to them and/or their end-customers.
To this focused list, I’d recommend sending our direct mail letter and a copy of the flyer. Remember to mark the date you send these on your marketing schedule and note two weeks later as the date you’ll follow these customers up with a telemarketing phone call.
A few weeks later, you can follow the same mailing and follow up phone call process with the rest of your database, to try to elicit orders from other industries. You may be surprised at how well financial calendars are received, even by those that you don’t expect to be interested.
Good luck!
